Many people don’t realize that a person at any age can experience cognitive decline, and this kind of disorder isn’t just the result of aging. In addition to old age, cognitive decline can be brought on by toxic or chemical exposure, chemo/radiation therapy, traumatic brain injury, or head trauma, hence, leading to a variety of symptoms, such as but not limited too, short term memory loss, difficulty in remembering people, places or things, communication disorder, mood swings, stress, and anxiety.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive therapy that can help restore normal brain function in patients with cognitive decline. This therapy is highly effective in improving cognitive function for those suffering from old age, TBI (traumatic brain injury), head injury, and chemo/radiation. During a neurofeedback therapy session, we conduct a technique called brain mapping, which helps us to locate the part of the brain not functioning correctly. During a session, we use an EEG machine to monitor the patient’s brainwaves, which allows us to zone in on the unbalanced parts of the brain, causing the symptoms listed above. Our brainwaves produce signals that can be used as feedback to help teach self-regulation to the brains function, bringing it back into balance.  Once found, those specific areas of the brain, causing the symptoms, are targeted with particular brain training exercises. By training the healthier part of the brain, a person will be able to produce a calm state, regulate their stress level responses, and create healthier brain patterns. Encouragingly, this treatment will modify the brain for the positive, retraining how it functions, and in return, create a healthier, more balanced brain, aligning the body and mind in harmony.

It’s important to note that Neurofeedback therapy helps manage the brain, so it functions more healthily, keeping symptoms at bay, and preventing new symptoms from occurring.
